Today's Excursion

We actually have blog followers-so I guess we aren't as big of losers as I'd thought. Oh wait, they are my sisters. Does that count and still put us in the "sort-of cool" category? Who knows.

Anyway, anyone who knows me is aware that I am not the type to sit on my rear picking my nose and eating bon-bons (a cool phrase one of my co-workers, Deanna, came up with which I find hilarious). Since I've been on maternity leave in the oh so beautiful Winter months, it can be kind of confining staying in the house all day. If we don't get out at least every other day, I tend to go stir crazy. Monday we went to Wal-Mart, Tuesday we went to the dentist and today we went to the pediatrician and the fertility doctor's office. Hold on, not so fast-we aren't trying to get pregnant again yet... That would be quite insane! We just wanted to visit and thank those who helped us to get pregnant with Lucas.

Back to the point. We went to the pediatrician first where Lucas got a clean bill of health and his first shot that I had to personally witness. No, I didn't cry-but it was a little hard to watch when he started crying in that soft little newborn cry after he got his shot. We also found out he is now 22 inches long and weighs 10 lbs 11 ounces-he gained almost 1.5 pounds in 2 weeks! What a piggy-piggers! He does like to eat quite a bit. In fact the only time he usually cries is when you don't feed him fast enough (sounds kind of like his Daddy). He really is an easy baby so far (ask me what I think about how easy he is once he's mobile).

After the traumatic shot incident, we headed off to the fertility practice to see Dr. Reuter and her nurse, Shelly, who guided us through the twists and turns of infertility treatment, including the IVF (in-vitro fertilization) process. Obviously it was worth it to go through everything to get to this point-we are so blessed! It was great to see both of them again (we haven't seen them since the 10th week of pregnancy when they released us to our obstetrician).

Tomorrow we will visit Jer's work so they can see him before I return to work after New Years' Day. Friday we will visit my work for our company pitch-in and so that they can see him before I go back to work for good. That will be a sad day...we won't even start with that topic.

  1. This is so cool Dawn, thanks for the link! After being a stay at home mom for 12 years, I can honestly say I never sat on my butt and ate bon-bons all day. I've never had a bon-bon. That's such a funny concept. I was so glad that I wasn't sick when you brought Lucas into work the other day so I could hold him. He's so sweet!
